<p><strong>Day 1</strong> (Mo, Jun 3, 16 &#8211; 19 h, Erick BASTOS): The organic synthesis of organic dyes and pigments: modern aspects.<br />
<strong>Day 2</strong> (Tu, 15 &#8211; 18 h, Dieter WEISS): The history of dyes.<br />
<strong>Day 3</strong> (Wed, 15 &#8211; 18 h, Rainer BECKERT): On the search for new chromophores and fluorophores.<br />
<strong>Day 4</strong> (Thu, 15 &#8211; 18 h, Dieter WEISS): Syntheses and applications of 4-hydroxythiazoles, new types of functional dyes.<br />
<strong>Day 5</strong> (Fri, Jun 7, 15 &#8211; 18 h, Rainer BECKERT): Aza-acenes, more than only new fluorophores.</p>
<p><strong>Details</strong>: This course will discuss classic and modern aspects of the synthesis and application of organic dyes and pigments. The applicant will learn about this exciting and multidisciplinary field!</p>
<p><strong>Prof. Dr. Rainer BECKERT</strong>, <a href="http://www.agbeckert.uni-jena.de/" target="_blank">http://www.agbeckert.uni-jena.de/</a></p>
<p>Rainer Beeckert is a full professor at the Institute for Organic and Macromolecular Chemistry at the University of Jena, Germany where he served as managing director from 1993 to 1995 and from 2003 to 2005. He published more than 150 papers and is the editor of the <em><a title="Organikum" href="http://www.chemistryviews.org/details/ezine/3606821/50_Years_of_Organikum__Amazing_Impact_of_a_Parctical_Course_Book.html" target="_blank">Organikum</a></em>. His research interests are concentrated on the synthesis of multifunctional heterocyclic compounds. Within this field, cascade reactions for the development of new chromophores and fluorophores, organic redox systems, as well as ligands for catalytic processes are the objects of special emphasis among his research activities. Prof. Beckert is well know “for his lively lectures, for instance on the fascinating subject of heterocyclic chemistry, as well as his humorous and paternal manner of introducing young people to the field of research.”<sup>1</sup><span style="vertical-align: super;"> </span></p>

<p>Dieter Weiss is a <em>privatdozent</em> at the Institute for Organic and Macromolecular Chemistry at the University of Jena, Germany. His research interests are concentrated on the synthesis of multifunctional heterocyclic compounds, especially those related to chemi and bioluminescence. He is the author of around 70 papers and has deeply influenced many Brazilian scientists, including Prof. Bastos (IQ-USP). Dr. Weiss is recognized by his capacity to make complex chemical concepts seem easy and familiar. Furthermore, he is engaged with chemical education and has designed many excited experiments related to the luminescence phenomenon.</p>
